complicity, 2003
complicity is an exploration of what it means to be a passive participant. it was originally inspired by my deep disturbance at the advent of the iraq war and my disgust at the over-consumption in my own household. somehow i am unable to prevent myself from assuming guilt for these activities. as a member of this society within a specific demographic--liberal, educated, middle-class, female, i realize that my behavior is somewhat in conflict with my beliefs, almost as if i have conflicting characters. feminist vs. pretty girl. pacifist vs. patriot. environmentalist vs. consumer. complicity begins to interpret gray areas of identity definition within the context of culture.
