paper dolls, 2006
the paper dolls are a collection of images, captured and digitally manipulated to simulate photographic renderings of traditional paper dolls. they speak to the idea of identity as it is grounded in and constructed through appearance—the meeting of self-expression, self-representation, and the perceptions of others. in their resemblance to playful novelties, they investigate conventional feminist issues, including childhood establishment of gender roles and female objectification.
